Hayes Valley is a compact neighbourhood of independent boutiques, cafés and restaurants around Patricia’s Green, beside the Civic Center’s opera house and concert halls.
The shops
Hayes Street and the streets around Patricia’s Green are lined with independent boutiques, design shops and cafés.
The concert halls
A few minutes east, the War Memorial Opera House is home to San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet, beside Davies Symphony Hall and City Hall.
Hayes Valley is the place for dinner before the opera.
Dinner before the show
Zuni Café on Market Street, Rich Table on Gough and Smuggler’s Cove for a drink are all within walking distance of the halls.
Our advice: shop in the afternoon, eat early, and walk over to the opera house.
