The back story

About The Marina, Cow Hollow and the Presidio

The Marina faces the Bay between Fort Mason and the Presidio, with Crissy Field and the Golden Gate Bridge to the west and Cow Hollow’s Union Street just uphill.

The Marina and Chestnut Street

The Marina is a flat, sunny neighbourhood by the water, with Chestnut Street as its main shopping street and the Palace of Fine Arts at its western edge.

Cow Hollow

Just uphill, Union Street runs through Cow Hollow with boutiques and restaurants in Victorian buildings; Atelier Crenn is on Fillmore Street nearby.

From the Marina Green, the Golden Gate Bridge fills the view.

The Presidio and Crissy Field

West of the Marina, Crissy Field’s promenade leads to Fort Point and the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Presidio rises above it, with the Tunnel Tops, the Walt Disney Family Museum and two places to stay.

Our advice: walk or cycle Crissy Field to the bridge in the morning, when the light is behind you.
